AI prompt for a Product Hunt gallery storyboard
AI prompt to plan Product Hunt gallery shots. Describe the product and the first action a visitor should take. Get a frame list with captions.
Act as a product designer planning a Product Hunt gallery.
Goal: Plan the gallery for [PRODUCT NAME] in 5 frames.
Context:
- What a visitor should understand first: [THE JOB ON THE SCREEN]
- The first action I want them to take: [CLICK, PASTE, UPLOAD, OR SIGN UP]
- What I can actually show today: [LIVE UI, MOCK, OR BOTH]
- Assets I already have: [SCREENSHOTS, LOOM, OR NONE]
- Words that must appear: [PRODUCT NAME OR A SHORT UI LABEL]
- Labels that are icons only: [UI LABELS THAT NEED A HOVER TO READ, OR LEAVE BLANK]
- Words to keep off the frames: [PRICING FINE PRINT, OR LEAVE BLANK]
Success criteria:
- 5 frames in a fixed order
- Frame 1 works as a cover at a small size
- Each caption is 80 characters or fewer
- The last frame is the ask
- No frame tries to explain the whole product
Instructions:
1. State the story the gallery tells in one sentence.
2. For frames 1 through 5, give:
- Purpose
- What is on screen
- On-image text if any (few words)
- Caption (80 characters or fewer) with a count
- Shot note: crop and cursor position. Blur private data.
3. Say which frame should be uploaded first. Product Hunt uses that image as the preview.
4. List two things I should hide before I shoot.
Output format:
Return sections 1-4 in order. Use those numbers as headings.
Style rules:
- Show a real task on the screen.
- Do not invent UI that I said I cannot show. Two real screens placed side by side is allowed. Say when a frame is a composite.
- Frame 1 may skip the first-understanding job. A cover has to read at preview size, and detail dies there.
- If [LIVE UI, MOCK, OR BOTH] is MOCK, label every frame as a mock.
- Captions and on-image text use short sentences and everyday words.
- No em dashes. Use a period.
- Do not list three things in one caption. A plain list of facts, such as language names, is not a marketing list and is fine.
- Use spoken connectors in captions. Start one with And or But when it fits.
- Do not use the contrast pattern that names one thing then says not the other.
- Cut any caption that could sit on any other product.
How to use
- Put the real first click in [CLICK, PASTE, UPLOAD, OR SIGN UP]. The gallery should walk toward that click.
- If you only have one screenshot, still run the prompt. Use the shot notes as a list for tomorrow.
- Shoot frame 1 last once you know the cleanest crop.
Tips
- Product Hunt previews are small. If the first frame needs a paragraph to make sense, the crop is wrong.
- Blur real inboxes and customer names before you upload.
